From time to time my girlfriend sends me links to posts on Kissing Suzy Kolber. For some reason I never added the blog to my daily reading. For those of you who never heard of it, its a blog about sports and it doesn’t pull any punches at all.
I added them and am a daily reader now and I’m really happy about it. These guys are simply hysterical. Just today there are two posts that had me almost wetting my pants. First is one about joe gibbs and the pats/skins game on sunday. Second is one about Arnold at the Chargers game.
So, according to NSPD-51 the president can skip the constitution, ignore congress and take over state and local govts. and private companies in the event of an “emergency” (which the president can define) for as long as he wants! So he could either declare an emergency or perhaps stage a fake terrorist attack and then take over the govt, dissolve congress and become supreme leader.. scary stuff! What kind of nation do we have that allows the president to simply declare stuff like this and get away with it? Why does our media ignore this? People, pay attention!
Here’s a video about it. Also, here’s a nice written piece about it.
Lastly.. in slate we see an article that at first appears skeptical but eventually you see that they are really paying attention :
I wish I did, but I see nothing in the document to prevent even a “localized” forest fire or hurricane from giving the president the right to throw long-established constitutional government out the window, institute a number of unspecified continuity policies, and run the country with the guidance of the “National Continuity Coordinator” and with the “Continuity Policy Coordination Committee” for as long as the president sees fit.
This order has been issued by executive fiat and has not been subjected to any public examination by the other two branches, which have behaved in a supine way that suggests how they’ll behave when comity time arrives and urgent decisions on the fate of the nation and perhaps the world (nuclear retaliation being what it is) need to be made immediately.
The fact that Congress has not scrutinized and challenged the potential here for an emergency-situation power grab is scandalous, unacceptable.
Do the wipers on your car suck? Ours do.. we have to get them changed but I don’t feel like taking the time to set up an appointment with the garage, drop off the car, etc. I also don’t want to do it myself and I don’t want to go to some quick Jiffy Lube type place.
Everyone should replace their wipers every six months. Some people should do it every 3 months. Wouldn’t it be cool if there were a service that took care of this for you? I see it like this. I go onto the “wiperman” website and sign up with my cc info, my car make and model, my license plate and my home address. At some periodic time the folks at wiperman send me an email saying they’re going to be changing my wipers. I do nothing. One day I wake up, get in my car and there is a flyer under my wipers saying something like “all new.. brought to you by Wiperman”. Yup, I’ve done nothing and the folks at wiperman have found my car on the street and changed my wipers. And they will for all eternity (as long as when I move I tell them)…
There could also be a one time service call where the guy comes out at night and it’s done by the morning: you call or set it up on the website, pay and presto, done. How cool would that be?
Man.. I am an idea king..
.. and I’m totally happy about it. In 9 days one of my favourite bands is going to release their next album. For Free. Yup.. Indeed it is true. Radiohead is releasing “In Rainbows” for “whatever you’d like to pay for it”. Since they aren’t tied to a record label, they can do this and guess what? It’s going to work swimmingly for them.
